The Vivahamitra was started as an humble attempt to help the devotees to find their prospective spouses within the devotee community and so although, we used to get "Thank You" mails and appreciation mails, it was not collected. Recently, devotees have been asking for producing "success stories" of the site. And hence we have attempted to contact a few devotees who had benefitted and are posting their messages here. If you or your devotee friends have benefitted by this service, please send us your message (if possible with a marriage photograph) and it would be very inspiring for the team to continue their service.

Vivahamitra was started in early April 2002 with the blessings & guidance provided by HH Jayapataka Maharaja. It was earlier handled by HG Vidvan Gauranga prabhu from Mayapur and was a simple text based newsletter comprising a few instructions from Srila Prabhupada about Grihasta Ashram and the different Ads of prospective brides and grooms. Later in May 2003, the web version was started and more features were added, like search and download of ads as a text file. Between 2003 and 2007, there were about 34 marriages that took place amongst devotees who had placed their ads in vivahamitra.

Though we had developed this new user friendly matrimonial site several years back, we didn`t launch it due to various reasons. But now on the advice of senior vaishnavas and the users we have launched this as a service for the vaishnava community.

From Prabhupada's purport to this verse:

"There are many purificatory processes for advancement of human society to spiritual life. The marriage ceremony is one of these sacrifices. The Lord says that any sacrifice which is meant for human welfare should never be given up. The marriage ceremony is meant to regulate the human mind to become peaceful for spiritual advancement."

Lord Chaitanya said to a devotee, "Be patient and return home. Don't be a crazy fellow. By and by you will be able to cross the ocean of material existence. You should not be a show bottle devotee and become a false renunciate. For the time being, enjoy the material world in a befitting way but do not get attached to it.
